The New Berlin Fire Company No. 1, Inc. is contracted to provide Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to the Borough of New Berlin and half of Limestone Township in southern Union County (central Pennsylvania).  In addition, we respond on automatic aid and on mutual aid to other municipalities in Union County and neighboring Snyder County. The historic Borough of New Berlin (founded as Longstown prior to the Revolution, incorporated as New Berlin more than 200 years ago) has a population exceeding 900. Our total area of responsibility is just over 15 square miles, and home to approximately 2,500 fulltime residents.
{Post Office & Courthouse Museum}

Before Snyder County was created from Union, New Berlin was the seat of that larger Union County (through the Civil War).  The photo on the left is of the old Union County Courthouse, on Market Street (SR304), at Vine Street (SR204).
Into the 1950's, the building was used to educate local children, grades 1 through 8.  The New Berlin Heritage Association owns the property today.  They have restored the building, with the first floor housing the U.S. Post Office (zip code 17855), and the second floor a museum of New Berlin artifacts.

   Enjoy the outdoors, but be safe.  Spring and summer activities often yield injuries from the use of power tools to maintain properties.  Please be careful with outdoor fires, for cooking or for pleasure.

I'm Just Regular Guy

"I'm just a regular guy who lives a regular life, but when that pager goes off at 3 in the morning and someone’s life is in my hands, I don't feel like that same regular guy and when that person lives because my quick response it's the greatest feeling in the world. Or when that house catches a blaze and when they think there is no hope of saving anything inside and we get it put out in time to save their most valuable possession, I don’t feel like that regular guy. I'm not a hero so don’t call me one, You don't owe me anything so don't try to pay me, I am a volunteer and that’s what I do; the look on your face when you find out that your loved one is safe is enough payment for me."
